Hauptmann Oswald Boelcke was a shining example of everything that a fighter pilot should be, but his real legacy was his set of rules - Dicta Boelcke - that he devised for air combat, outlining techniques and tactics that became the standard for many generations of fighter pilots to come. He is shown in the aircraft in which he lost his life on 28th October 1916 when his all-black Albatross D.I was involved in a collision with his own wingman. Boelckes final tally was 40 victories. Replacing Ewald Blumenbach as commander of Jasta 12 in May 1917, Hermann Becker continued his impressive scoring rate utilising the superb Siemens-Schuckert D.IV fighter, shown here in Beckers distinctive blue and white livery. One of the most advanced fighters of World War 1, this aircraft was possessed of an incredible rate of climb, taking just some 12 minutes to reach 16,000ft and having an operational ceiling of 26,240ft. Becker is depicted here claiming one of the many Spads that he shot down on his way to a final victory total of 23, all of them with Jasta 12. Small limited edition of 30 prints.
