Henry Koellein | Henry Koellein USMC Henry was born in Maryland in 1926, and enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1943. After finishing boot camp in June 1944, he was later assigned to the 4th Marine Division. As a member of the 2nd Platoon, India Company, 25th Marines, Henry landed on Iwo Jima in the 1st wave on February 19th 1945 as a flame thrower operator. He was seriously wounded and was hospitalized for six months. He was discharged from the Marines in 1946 as a Private 1st Class. During his civilian life, he has been affiliated with numerous organizations. He retired in March 1995 as the Commissioner of Labor and Industry in the state of Maryland. |
