Cyril OBrien | Cyril OBrien Cy OBrien grew up in Camden, New Jersey and attended State University in Philadelphia, PA. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in July 1942 immediately after high school. After boot camp, he was assigned overseas and participated as an infantryman in the battle of Bougainville in November 1943. He later joined the ranks of Combat Correspondents on Guadalcanal in time for the invasion of Guam, where he was assigned to the 3rd Marine Div, and on Iwo Jima with the 9th Marine Regiment. At the wars end he became a newspaperman, covering the US Congress as a columnist in New Jersey. He later was the head of media relations for John Hopkins University and the Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Maryland, the state in which he currently resides. |
